11 BOMBS KILLS 41 IN BAGHDAD

Baghdad bombings target mostly Shiite neighborhoods

At least 41 people were killed and more than 165 others wounded Saturday in a series of bombings that hit Baghdad over a two-hour period, health and police officials said.

The 11 car bombs and six roadside bomb explosions were in predominantly Shiite areas. They all happened after sunset.

The blasts occurred a day after a hidden bomb went off during a sermon inside a Sunni mosque in Al-Wajihiya, about 85 kilometers (53 miles) northeast of Baghdad, killing 18 people and wounding 56 others.

Two of the bombs Saturday exploded in the Karrada neighborhood of central Baghdad, killing six people and wounding 12 others. One went off on a busy road and the other outside a popular fresh juice shop, officials said.

The bloodshed comes amid a recent increase in violence, much of it stemming from discord between Sunnis and Shiites.

Sunnis have long felt politically marginalized under a Shiite-led government in the post-Saddam Hussein era. They enjoyed more political clout during Saddam's rule, before his ouster after the U.S.-led 2003 invasion.

Nigeria’s Federal Government is Under Pressure to Legalize Gay Marriage

Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said Friday that the Federal Government is under pressure to legalize gay marriage.

Speaking in Abuja at an interactive session with the diplomatic corps, he accused the international community of hypocrisy.
The minister reiterated that Nigeria would not sign the Gay Rights bill or abolish the death penalty without reviewing the constitution.

Island sees first baby born in 34 years

    

On June 1st Eli Edward Hayes Heineman became the first baby born on South Bass Island in Ohio in 34 years. New father, Dustin Heineman told WKYC Channel 3, "Having a baby born on the island is, you know, not the normal thing to do since there's no hospitals nearby or anything like that.” But Eli’s Mom, Kira Hubner, grew up on South Bass Island located in Lake Erie and said, "My heart wants to be here on Put-In-Bay." Precautions were taken in the event of an emergency, but the two midwives that traveled at dawn by boat to Put-In-Bay delivered healthy baby Eli without issue. Kira recalled, "It was more than perfect. There was a beautiful rainbow the second he was born." The family has deep roots in Ohio. They own the Heineman Winery which is celebrating its 125th year and is the oldest family owned winery in Ohio. So little Eli, a 6th generation Heineman, will have a legacy to uphold and his father already has plans for his son place in with the winery saying, "He will learn it from the ground up, just like I have." The family business is likely to be in his blood. Kira said, “When he was in-utero, I was out in the vineyard picking grapes in the fall, and in the spring I was tying the vines. So hopefully, something, you know is flowing through his veins."
