Summing it Up: TB Joshua Under Fire!

TB Joshua promises to pay medical expenses from fatal stampede at Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ghana.
Summing it Up: TB Joshua Under Fire!
It’s the middle of a working day, in the middle of the week, but the trickle of worshippers at the Synagogue Church of All Nations is quickly becoming a flood. Around 1,000 people sit silently on plastic chairs cooled by dozens of floor fans at the church – a building reminiscent of an aircraft hangar just off Accra’s industrial Spintex Road – watching its founder delivering a sermon on his own dedicated 24 hour TV channel, Emmanuel TV.
Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Johsua, founder of the Synagogue Church empire, is one of the biggest celebrities west Africa. His regular Sunday services in Nigeria boasts attendance rates of around 15,000 and the Nigerian government has reported that the number of worshippers travelling to the church in Lagos have significantly boosted tourism to Nigeria.
But he is an increasingly controversial figure in Ghana, after a deadly stampede at the Synagogue Church last Sunday left four people dead and at least 30 injured.
The worshippers were hoping to obtain holy “new anointing water”, which Emmanuel TV had announced would be distributed for free. “The anointing water usually costs 80 cedis, but we learned that on Sunday it would be given out for free,” said Joseph Adanvor, 52, who witnessed the fatal stampede. “I have never seen anything like it before. People had come from Togo, Benin, even from Kenya. They tried to close the church but people were climbing over the walls and breaking in. The police and army were there but they couldn’t control the crowds.”
The police, who are investigating the deaths, said that they had not anticipated the number of people who would attend the church, with worshippers arriving from as early as 2am. “All of us were caught by surprise,” police spokesman Freeman Tetteh told the BBC world service. “No one knew the crowd will be so huge.”
The church declined to comment to the Guardian but earlier announced that it would pay the medical expenses for those injured in the incident. Reverend Sam Mc-Caanan told journalists that the church was ‘devastated’. “We have to do a thorough work around this to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he said.

I Had A Home, Loving Boyfriend, And A Nice Life... But I Wasn't Happy

I was in a starter marriage. Without the marriage part.
I was partnered to a lovely man for four years. We lived in the quintessential suburban home. I went to grad school while he worked for a startup. Dinner parties, game night, wine tasting, a cat. You know, the whole nine yards.
The only problem was, this wasn't my path.
It took me a while to realize this. You see, nothing looked wrong from the outside. In fact, it all looked pretty nice. I was doing what I was supposed to do, right?
Wrong. I was doing what I was supposed to do if I wanted to do it. There's a big difference.
While hanging out with my perfectly sweet boyfriend in my perfectly sweet home, I found myself wondering, "What am I doing here?" and even more disturbingly, "Why doesn't this feel right?"
Turns out I got caught in the trap that many of us get caught in: I believed I'd find happiness if I followed the path I was "supposed" to follow. Most of us learn the hard way.
For whatever reason, many of us believe there's a specific way to do life (marriage, kids, house, in some particular order). We think if we continue down this path we'll eventually arrive to the place called happy.
You're supposed to move in together, you're supposed get married, you're supposed to buy a house, you're supposed to have kids…
The problem is, we actually aren't supposed to do any of these things! What we're supposed to do is be true to ourselves! Lots of us didn't get that memo.
Maybe this is your memo.
Luckily, I caught myself in the midst of unhappy and bravely spoke my truth: This isn't working for me.

Nexus 7 to get an Awesomeness upgrade

Nexus 7 ready for an Upgrade

If you thought the Nexus 7 was good. Wait till you hear of these expected updates. All at seemingly the same price.
If the published report by 9to5google is to be believed the Google Nexus 7 could be getting an upgrade to its awesomeness at this years May 15-17 held Google I/O. They have quoted KGI securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo saying that the Nexus 7 could be scaled up by Google before this years launch of Apple’s iPad Mini 2.
The iPad Mini 2 is expected to have a resolution of 2048 x 1536 up from the 1024 x 768 resolution of the iPad Mini launched last October. Keeping inline with this, the New Nexus 7 will have a 1920 x 1200 resolution, up from 1280 x 800 of the existing Nexus 7. Rumors are flying around left right and center on the other blogs including pcmag about what the annual developer session at Google I/O might reveal in terms of updates but this particular news seems to be sure shot.
Expected Updates:
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
  • 5 mega pixel rear camera and 2 mega pixel front camera
  • Android v4.3 aka. Key Lime Pie
  • 4325 mAh to be replaced by 4000 mAh
  • 1920 x 1200
  • Wireless charging
  • Thinner and Lighter in weight
Of all these changes, its the scaling down of the battery that seems to be most surprising but considering the budget constraints that come with bringing so many feature updates at once, it might be a pinch that most customers might be willing to take.
Apart from this, its the Key Lime Pie, the latest Android version that will be eagerly anticipated, since few tablets and phones boast of it.
“Tablet PC competition has become much fiercer this year so we reckon the new Nexus 7 year-on-year shipments growth will be limited”, Kuo stated. Hence, a good news for customers is that even after all these expected changes the entry level 16 GB wi-fi model for the new Nexus 7 will cost just $199.
The Google I/O is also expected to throw up Google’s plans about changes to its Google Wallets and introduction of the Nexus 4 updates similar to those of the Nexus 7. My Tablet Guru will keep bringing you the latest from this side. So keep watching this space.

The cat that saved a Japanese train station

Look carefully, this station is shaped like a cat.
Some 30 minutes from central Wakayama City in southeast Japan is the quiet, rural neighborhood of Kinokawa.
Despite the area's un-remarkableness, its train station attracts no shortage of visitors, most under the age of 12.
Tama, the hero of Kishi Station. These tourists may not know what there is to see or do in wider Kinokawa, nor do they seem particularly interested -- all they want to do is visit Kishi train station, which serves Kinokawa.
They come seeking time, and hopefully a photo, with Kishi's stationmaster, a calico cat named Tama.
Tama’s duty is napping in her office (a converted ticket booth) and her salary is practical -- an unlimited supply of cat food.
Another lazy-looking cat in relatively comfy digs. So far, like the area she resides in, Tama seems unremarkable.

2015: Ogun PDP Goes Spiritual As Pastors, Imams Pray Against ACN

The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday went spiritual in its supremacy battle with the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria.
Prayers by both Christian and Muslim Clerics were held at the party secretariat located along Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta.
The PDP also told the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun and the ruling ACN that they should forget about winning a second term in 2015.
The one-day inter-religious prayer session organized by the PDP National Youth Vanguard lasted for more than three hours and was conducted by pastors from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria- John Akinbode, Kinrin Emmanuel and Olusesi Obateye- and Muslim Clerics from Morcaz in Ogun State including Giyath Oyelayo and Moshood Uthman.
Quoting copiously from the Quran and the Bible, the clerics prayed for continued unity of the opposition party as well as their success in the 2015 polls. They further predicted victory for the PDP in the next general elections in the state.
The PDP chairman in Ogun, Adebayo Dayo, said at the prayer session that the people of the state have suffered untold hardship due to the improper handling of the state affairs by the Amosun administration.

Davido Is Underrated--Tonto Dikeh

When in late 2011, Davido made a brief show of his music talent, some might have thought that he would just come, briefly reign, and go underground as it has happened to several Nigerian artistes.

But two years almost gone, the 'Omo Baba Olowo' crooner is still waxing stronger by the day. He is one of the top artistes in Nigeria.

According to Nollywood 'bad girl' actress, Tonto Dikeh, Davido is underrated. She bore her mind on Davido in a tweet on her twitter page today.

"I think Davido is fantastic and underrated," the Ikwere, Rivers State-born actress posted.

Tonto, who has also tried her luck in music, just like her other colleagues, has not had a fair share of commendations from fans. She was lambasted for going into music, which many people believe the actress does not have what it takes to be a musician.

The Love Story of Comedian Princess and Her Husband

princessPopular Nigerian female comedian, Princess, and her movie producer/director husband, Adeshola Jeremiah, tied the knot on Wednesday 8th May 2013 at the Balmoral Hall, Oregun, Lagos. It was indeed a happy day for ‘Madam’ Princess who had almost lost of hope of finding a husband.
Below is their very interesting love story…
On what attracted her to Adeshola Jeremiah
Well he is a quiet person and if not for the fact that I am into entertainment, I also like my privacy, I don’t like unnecessary show-off. If I go somewhere and they don’t recognize me, that is very okay by me, I just love to be myself.

Janet Jackson Is Officially a Billionaire

Michael Jackson may be one of the most successful dead celebrities, but his sister Janet (who, of course, is alive and well) is doing pretty well herself. The 47-year-old is officially a billionaire.

According to Variety, Jackson, who is one of the best-selling artists of all time, has earned $458 million thanks to her successful concert tours, $304 million from acting roles in films like “For Colored Girls” and “The Nutty Professor,” $260 million in album sales, and more than $81 million from tour sponsorships and licensing fees.

And the “Control” songstress isn’t the only billionaire in her household. Jackson secretly married retail tycoon Wissam Al Mana, who’s made his fortune investing in the Middle East.

As for fellow celeb billionaires, Jackson joins a club with members including Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, J.K. Rowling, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, whose “Seinfeld” money helped … but whose main fortune came from her dad, billionaire Gerard Louis-Dreyfus, chairman of the Louis Dreyfus Energy Services.

At least Janet can feel good about the fact she earned her billion all by herself.

CHILD BIRTH AS THE TORNADO HIT MOM IN LABOR

Oklahoma nurses saved mom in labor

Tears flowed and hugs were traded on Thursday in an Oklahoma maternity ward as four nurses saw for the first time the baby whose birth they helped safeguard during a direct hit by Monday's tornado.
"Look how handsome your boy is," said one of them, when she saw the 4-day-old boy.
But baby Braeden's birth came only after a very close brush with the twister.
His mother, Shayla Taylor, was already in labor when the tornado turned toward Moore, Oklahoma. She was so far along -- dilated and going through contractions -- that in spite of the approaching storm, there was no way to evacuate her.
"She couldn't move," said Alyson Heeke, nurse supervisor at Moore Medical Center. "She'd had an epidural anesthesia, which meant that it numbed her enough that she couldn't walk."
This is what was left of the OR where Shayla Taylor was giving birth on Monday when the tornado hit.
This is what was left of the OR where Shayla Taylor was giving birth on Monday when the tornado hit.

As the tornado came closer, the medical staff moved Taylor into a hallway, then to a windowless operating room that offered more protection.
"Her baby was not doing the best," said charge nurse Cindy Popejoy, "so I really needed a way to monitor her baby to see how the baby was tolerating the labor process -- especially since she was so far dilated. So the only place to do that would be the OR."
With the twister bearing down on them, the four nurses -- Popejoy, Heeke, Barbara Brand and Bonny Stephens -- covered their patient with blankets, pillows and even their own bodies.
"We actually were on the floor," said Heeke. "Bonny the scrub-tech was kind of leaned over her a little more. We had blankets and pillows all around her. We were holding onto each other -- and the bed."
Within minutes, the hospital was hit with massive force. Taylor said she did not know whether she and the baby would survive, but she kept praying.
"I knew we were getting hit directly," she said. "I felt the floor start shaking. It feels like an earthquake."
The outside wall of the operating room was ripped off, but everyone in the room survived. Afterward, debris was lying everywhere, including heavy equipment and lighting fixtures strewn across the floor. There was wreckage in every direction, there was a gaping hole where the wall once stood, and the baby-warmer was silhouetted against the open sky.
"I opened my eyes, I could see I-35," said Taylor. "And I could see the movie theater."
But Shayla's husband Jerome -- who had taken cover downstairs with their 4- year-old son Shaeden -- did not know whether she had survived and did not know how to find her.
"They were saying 'No, everyone's out of the building,' " he said. "And I was like 'No, my wife - my wife is upstairs."
He soon found her, and she was transported on a flat board down a stairwell and through the debris. Shayla Taylor was closer than ever to giving birth.
She was taken to the nearby hospital in Norman and gave birth within hours. Braeden weighed in at 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
"He probably will sleep through anything now," Heeke said with a smile.
Shayla Taylor is herself studying to become a nurse. Seeing these nurses put a patient's welfare ahead of their own, she said, has made her more committed than ever to becoming a caregiver.
"Those nurses are amazing," she said.
