Now, get paid to unlock your phone's screen

Generally speaking, ads on mobile phones are a nuisance. They pop up often in free apps, look ugly and use up a little bit of your data without offering you anything in return. But that's about to change, thanks to a small US-based, start-up called Locket.

Locket recently acquired VC funding and they plan to take over an underutilised part of your smartphone: the lockscreen - what you see immediately after you press the power button but before you actually swipe to unlock.

The action of just unlocking your phone - an action you do several times a day - could earn you 1 US cent per unlock (limited by a built in algorithm). In return, Locket will place what they call a targeted, 'first glance' ad on your device's lockscreen. You don't need to interact or click on the ad if you don't want to - you get paid anyway. Based on roughly 12 hours of usage a day, you could pull in US$ 10 a month - a substantial amount of cash for doing nothing in addition to what you normally do.

You don't need to provide bank account details or credit card info either - all you need to do is download Locket to your Android phone and give in an email ID associated with a PayPal account. You can get a payout from Locket when your balance reaches $10. Currently, Locket only works in the US but depending on advertiser interest, it could spread very rapidly. Earnings are not just limited to 'unlocks' - the company is currently offering a $1 bonus for each successful referral and they also offer random cash bonuses to loyal customers.

Blindness Can Now Be Cured – UK Scientist

The prospect of reversing blindness has made a significant leap, according to scientists in the UK. An animal study in the journal Nature Biotechnology showed the part of the eye which actually detects light can be repaired using stem cells.The team at Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London say human trials are now, for the first time, a realistic prospect.Experts described it as a “significant breakthrough” and “huge leap” forward.Photoreceptors are the cells in the retina which react to light and convert it into an electrical signal which can be sent to the brain.However, these cells can die off in some causes of blindness such as Stargardt’s disease and age-related macular degeneration.There are already trials in people to use stem cells to replace the “support” cells in the eye which keep the photoreceptors alive.Blind mice.Now the London-based team have shown it is possible to replace the light-sensing cells themselves, raising the prospect of reversing blindness.They have used a new technique for building retinas in the laboratory. It was used to collect thousands of stem cells, which were primed to transform into photoreceptors, and injected them into the eyes of blind mice.The study showed that these cells could hook up with the existing architecture of the eye and begin to function.However, the effectiveness is still low. Only about 1,000 cells out of a transplant of 200,000 actually hooked up with the rest of the eye.Lead researcher Prof Robin Ali said: “This is a real proof of concept that photoreceptors can be transplanted from an embryonic stem cells source and it give us a route map to now do this in humans.

On being dumped..
Did anybody hear me say that? Nobody used and dumped me. As journalists, you should  know that your colleagues are fond of using sensational headlines to drag traffic to their blogs and websites. At the end of the day, I did not say somebody used and dumped me. I don’t remember saying anything like that.

But what actually happened between you and Iyanya?
I guess it is out there. I granted two interviews on this whole thing; Bella Naija and Toolz(The Juice). I don’t want to repeat myself. My interviewers took what they wanted to take away from the interviews I granted them. I don’t have any control over what they decide to publish or put out there.

How do you address the allegations of lightening your skin?
Do I look like someone who is bleaching? One thing people should understand is that we use a lot of photo tricks.If you watch our movies, for instance, I look a little bit dark but if you see my pictures, I look fair in complexion. Commonsense should tell anyone that the pictures are treated. What happened is that I posted my new picture online and people started alleging that I was bleaching my skin. That’s how the whole thing started. My mum is fairer than me, and my siblings are all fair in complexion. I don’t bleach and I don’t intend lightening my skin.

A passenger miraculously survived a horrific car crash despite her head smashing through the windscreen.

The car crashed into the back of a lorry and the woman – who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt – was propelled forwards.

Her head broke through the glass and she became trapped in the accident in Guizhou in southern China.

Firefighters first removed the unconscious male driver before carefully enlarging the hole around the woman’s neck so she could be pulled free. 

Amazingly, according to doctors, both the passenger and driver are out of danger and recovering in hospital.

Lesson: Always use your seat belt!

This article is from the enemy. They should not drag me into the issue of politics. If I was ever to go to Aso Rock, I would go publicly. I have already told you how I met Al-Mustapha. Don’t put words in my mouth. I explained that I got to know him many years ago when a petition was addressed to General Bamaiyi who was the then Chairman of the NDLEA. I spent nine days with them for investigation and they found the whole thing to be a fabrication.

From there, I was taken to see the president where I met Mustapha. I was able to reveal to them who I am by telling them what was to come as a prophet. I told him that he would spend several years in prison and would be finally released which no one else had ever told him. That is why you saw him coming here as his first port of call. Where there is no vision, people perish.

It is therefore very malicious for Sahara Reporters to attach any political meanings to Al-Mustapha’s visit. At no time did I tell President Jonathan that his political fortune rested with setting Al-Mustapha free, neither did I ever suggest that Chief James Ibori, former Delta State Governor be brought back to Nigeria to assist the president in the 2015 presidential election. 

Count me out of the politics of hatred.

Bodies Of Three Women Found In Plastic Bags In Cleveland US

East Cleveland Police Chief Ralph Spotts had warned search teams rummaging through 40 empty properties in the area to be prepared that they may discover more victims.
A suspect in the case has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Madison and he is expected to be formally charged on Monday, according to Mr Spotts.
The suspect indicated that he may have been influenced by Cleveland serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was convicted and sentenced to death in 2011 over the murder of 11 women, Mayor Gary Norton said.
In this incident, one body was found on Friday in a garage. Two others were discovered on Saturday; one in a backyard and the other in the basement of a vacant house. The three female bodies, all wrapped in plastic bags, had been placed approximately 200 yards (182 meters) apart, and authorities believed the victims were killed in the last six to 10 days.
Mr Spotts said the suspect had not been clear over whether more bodies could be found.
“He really hasn’t stated that there’s any more, but he hasn’t said anything that would make us think that there’s not,” Spotts said.
Sunday’s search included 40 abandoned houses as authorities wanted to search the area thoroughly, the mayor said.
“Hopefully, we pray to God, this is it,” he added.
The bodies were each lying in the fetal position, wrapped in several layers of trash bags, Norton said.
Dr. Thomas P. Gilson, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, said because the bodies were already in advanced stages of decomposition, it would take several days to determine the identities and causes of death.
Madison was placed on a sex offender register in 2002 when he was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted rape, according to Cuyahoga County court records. He had previous convictions in 2000 and 2001 for drug-related charges.
He was arrested on Friday evening at his mother’s property in Cleveland.

President Obama Congratulates Kate Middleton & Prince William On New Royal Baby

Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their first son into the world today and President Barack Obama sent over his congratulations.

In a statement released by the White House, the President said “the child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations.”

“Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child. We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings,” he said. “The child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations. Given the special relationship between us, the American people are pleased to join with the people of the United Kingdom as they celebrate the birth of the young prince.”

The First Lady sent her personal well wishes via Twitter. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son,” she wrote. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son!”

According to the Buckingham Palace, the new mommy gave birth at St. Mary’s Hospital in London on Monday, July 22.

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm. The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.”

First lady Patience Jonathan’s mother dies in car crash in

According to a report by Punch, the mother of Nigeria's first lady, Patience Jonathan, Mrs Iwari-Oba has died in a fatal auto accident along Elele Road in Rivers State. 

The first lady's mother was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident occurred yesterday Monday July 22nd around 4pm. Sad! May her soul rest in peace...amen.
