Ten of the best ... ways to make money from your desk (CONTD.......)

 1. Get paid to surf the net

You surf the net all the time so why not make money every time you click on "search"? Yahoo powers searches which pay a small amount every time you run one – it is willing to do so because it wants to break down Google's domination. There is a search at Moneymagpiesearch.com. If you recommend your friends you will also make commission on their searches. The payments are small but we know people who have made around £30 in two months by searching regularly. You can choose whether you receive your money through PayPal or by bank transfer.
2. Take part in online surveys
Again, this is pocket money while you're on the internet, but it can be fun too. It is simply a case of answering questions about a particular product or company, or about your shopping habits. Be careful which surveys you use – some are fraudulent. Among the best of the genuine ones ispanelbase.net, which will pay between 50p and £3 a survey, Valued Opinions, which pays between £1 and £5 a survey, and Ciao-surveys.co.uk, which pays up to £5.
3. Get paid for social networking
You can make money by keeping in touch with friends, and making more friends, on social networking site Yuwie. Set up a profile, write a blog, upload photos and videos and do what you usually do with any networking site. The difference with Yuwie is that it pays you to do all these things using advertising revenue. The amount you get paid depends on the number of times you and your friends view your pages. If you have lots of friends the views mount up and you can make some worthwhile cash.
 4. Recycle your mobile
Have you got a useless old mobile in your desk drawer? Most of us have at least one hanging around the office or house, so make money from yours. Send it to Mopay and make between £2.50 and £200 depending on its make and condition. Even rubbishy old battered models can be worth a few quid if they can be sold on for spare parts.

5. Sell advert on blog
If you are a regular blogger and have built up a bit of a following, you could make money selling advertising around your posts. You can make cash quickly by putting Google Adsense on it. If you get enough traffic you make money every time people click on the ads. Blogs are also great for selling any products you have, promoting your services (it could be anything from sales training to web development or maternity care) and selling eBooks you have created yourself.

6. Sell your photos
If you have a nice collection of digital photos you could sell them over and over again through online agencies. Send them in to one or more agencies and any they like they will upload to the site. When people buy them you get a commission; you could end up getting paid for years to come. Picturenation say many of their photographers make hundreds of pounds a month, and some are simply good amateurs. Also try Fotoliaand iStockphoto.
7, Rent out your stuffs
Everyone knows about selling stuff on eBay, but how about renting it and making money over and over again? Sites like RentNotBuy.co.uk andRentRino will let you advertise anything from a baby bath to a ball gown. It is a new phenomenon, so it could be a while before anyone rents your power tools or your DVD player, but if you have a spare minute upload your details and later on you could make some regular cash.
8, Complain to gain
We don't complain enough in this country, which is one of the reasons why service can be so bad. However, those who complain constructively have worked out they can even make money through it. A well-crafted, reasonable letter including a request for financial compensation can make you money. Write to a company's CEO explaining the problem and set out the amount you feel you should receive in compensation. If it is refused write again, and even write a third time if necessary. Usually by the second or third letter they cave in and give you about half of what you were asking for.
9. Answer text question
If you're a bit of a trivia king or queen you could make money by answering people's text questions. It is flexible work and you just have to be a bit knowledgeable and quick at searching the net (make extra by following point 1 above). On average, question answerers make about £10 an hour. The questions vary enormously: you could get anything from "Where's the nearest pizza place?" to "Who won the 1962 world cup?" and "Will I ever find love?". Visit ansanow or Textperts to see if you are quick enough to be part of their teams of knowledge hunters.
10. Get cash back
If you use your lunch hour to buy essentials, make sure you get paid to do it. Shop around first to find the best deals, then look on cashback sites to see if you could get money back by buying through them. Start with sites that give you instant cash just by signing up, such as Rpoints, which gives you £5, Cashback Shopper, which gives you £5, andecashback, which gives you £2.50 immediately.

GOOD LUCK WITH GETTING RICH

Meet Richest Black Woman, Folorunsho Alakija

After almost four decades of silence, Nigerian-born globe’s richest black woman, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, has revealed the many pains, rejections and frustrations she had to bear with equanimity in the hands of her mother in-law, prior and after their marriage.
Speaking to a jam-packed church, she said her mother in-law never wanted a Yoruba woman and Muslim as a daughter in-law.

“My husband’s mother was Igbo, while her dad was from South West here. And because of this, my mother in-law never wanted a Yoruba woman to marry her son. She was not comfortable also with my Muslim background then. She wanted an Igbo daughter in-law, but my husband said it’s me or nothing.

It was a tough battle until God finally prevailed… Whenever she wanted something from my husband and was not getting it immediately, she would start attacking me and saying I’m the one stopping her son from doing her bidding's.It was also an issue when she asked for a baby girl from me and I could not give her. I have four boys in my marriage… At some point, I was encouraged to fight back by my husband, but I refused and kept praying to God to change her.

Despite my mother in-laws opposition towards me, I made sure we took her to US and UK on holidays with us severally and kept showering her with unconditional love. My joy is that we settled before she passed on,” she recounts in a voice filled with emotions.

Alakija, who was visibly emotional and was moved to tears, while her intimidating resume was being read, also challenged husbands, to continually support, provide and pamper their wives with unconditional love and affection.

“No marriage survives without love, respect and support from the couple,” she insists.

She maintains that these “special secrets” were the ingredient that keeps endearing her darling husband to her, thus helping to renew and strengthen their undying love for each other on a daily basis.

“My husband is my best friend, biggest adviser and supporter. We’ve known each other for 40 years and have been married for 37 years now with four boys.

Even though we work in the same office, I always ensure that we kiss twice in a day, morning and night. I still wash his undies until six years ago that he insisted I should stop.

I also prepare his special vegetable dish, does his manicure and pedicure regularly. I also go to the airport to pick him whenever he is returning from foreign trips.

It gives me joy whenever his friends praise my vegetable dish based on what my husband tells them during discussions…” she further discloses with a gentle smile on her famous face, urged women to be loving and submissive to their husbands.

Did Google flush $12.4 billion down the toilet with Motorola?

An EU warning to Motorola Mobility is just the latest defeat that has some wondering why Google bought the handset and TV set-top box maker.
When Google said it would acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.4 billion, it was applauded as a bold move to shore up its patent position.
A year and a half and several legal setbacks later, many are wondering when -- and if -- Google will ever see a payoff.

The latest headache comes courtesy of the European Commission, which sent Motorola Mobility a formal list of complaints on Monday regarding how it uses its market position to seek and enforce a patent-related injunction against Apple.
Companies with a technology that's deemed by the industry as essential for all products have an obligation to license that intellectual property under what's known as "fair and reasonable" terms. The European Union is concerned that Motorola didn't give Apple a fair shake with that technology, made worse by Apple's claim that it has been willing to pay a royalty.
The warning letter, which potentially hamstrings how aggressive Motorola and Google can be in the courtroom, comes two weeks after a U.S. federal court judge ruled that Microsoft owed $1.8 million to Motorola for wireless and video codec patents -- a pittance relative to the $4 billion Motorola had originally sought.
The string of defeats has many becoming increasingly vocal about whether Google whiffed badly with its Motorola acquisition. Alongside the limited legal benefits Motorola has brought, the deal also caused a great deal of stress between its various vendor partners. While none admit it publicly, many felt put off by Google's purchase of Motorola and intent to keep running the handset business as a unit within the company.
Google has long maintained that Motorola runs independently of the Android program, but Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside reports directly to Google CEO Larry Page.
And what has that handset business brought? Little beyond continued losses that drag on Google's usually sterling financial results. In the first quarter, it lost $271 million, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight for the red on Motorola's balance sheet. Of course, the results are a speck on Google's broader performance. In April, it posted a first-quarter operating profit of $3.48 billion and said it had $50 billion in cash.
Google's only real positive move was to unload Motorola's home set-top box business for $2.3 billion, ridding itself of 7,000 employees and a series of patent lawsuits.
Motorola's handset business, meanwhile, has been in the midst of a transformation, and has yielded some solid, if unremarkable, phones. The continuation of the Razr brand has kept Motorola somewhat on the radar, but it has little else going for it right now.
Perhaps the rumored "X Phone" will give it something to crow about. But for now, Motorola is looking increasingly like a high-profile blunder by Google.

Plot To Assassinate Sen Etok: Gov Akpabio Vindicated

The Department of State Services in Abuja on Monday paraded a 29-year-old man, Mr Adelola Tamunotoye Olaore, over a phantom plot to assassinate the senator representing Ikot Ekpene senatorial district of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Aloysius Etok.
The suspect confessed that he hatched the phantom plot to extort money from Senator Etok by exploiting the perceived rift between him and the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill  Akpabio. He said he had wanted to use the proceeds to pursue a Masters’ degree programme. According to the deputy director of public relations of the Service, Ms Marilyn Ogar, the Service swung into action following a letter entitled “Report of planned assassination by a man who calls himself General Africa (an ex-militant)” by Senator Etok to the Service.
Ms Ogar said on getting the letter the Service had directed the senator to play along with the suspect, which eventually led to his apprehension on April 29, 2013.
The suspect, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said he went to NDDC office in Port Harcourt to submit a letter and stumbled on a mail bearing Senator Etok’s complimentary card from where he obtained the senator’s number.
He said being aware of the political interests between the senator and the governor over the Ikot Ekpene senatorial seat by 2015, he seized the opportunity to contact him.
He said he had introduced himself as General Africa, an ex-militant from Bayelsa State, and then told the senator that he had been contacted by three of Governor Akpabio’s loyalists to assassinate him.
According to Mr Olaore, in order to convince the senator, he offered to furnish him with details of the governor’s purported bank account and energy company in South Africa. He however confessed that he had never met Governor Akpabio or any of his loyalists.
He said he hatched the plot to defraud Senator Etok using information he obtained from open media about a rift between him and Governor Akpabio. He pleaded for leniency.
Ms Ogar said Mr Olaore would be charged to court. She warned the general public to be wary of individuals who exploit activities be it political, religious or economic for criminal ends.

Ekiti ACN Chairman, Four Others Charged For Murder

Mr Jide Awe
Mr Jide Awe

The Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Ekiti state chapter, Mr Jide Awe, was on Monday arraigned along with four other members of the party, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged murder.
They are Faboro John, Aniramu Basiru, Falayi Busuyi and Owonifari Sefiu.
The accused were said to have committed the crime at a forum to mark the defection of some ACN members to the opposition PDP in the state.
Jide Awe: charged with murder.
The police prosecutor, Mr Falade Oso, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on March 30 at Erijiyan-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.
“Awe and the four others were arraigned in court over the killings about a month ago at Erinjiyan-Ekiti, his home town. It was at a ceremony where some people believed to be members of the ACN were set to defect to the opposition party, the PDP,” he said.
Oso said that the accused persons conspired together to commit felony to wit murder. He also said the accused murdered one Ayo Jeje, Juliana Adewumi, Gbenga Ogundana and Ayo Ogbudu Jeje.
Oso added that on the same date, time and place, the accused also attempted to murder one Gbenga Adewumi.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.
The defence counsel, Mr Adetunji Oso, said the accused had been granted bail at the police station and pleaded that the court should allow the bail to continue.
He added that since the case file of the accused had not been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice, they should be allowed to continue to enjoy police bail.
The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail application, saying that they should be remanded in prison custody.
Chief Magistrate Richard Adegboye ruled that the accused should continue to enjoy the earlier bail granted at the police station.
Adegboye, who warned the accused against jumping bail, adjourned the case till 25 May.

Rivers: Soyinka warns Jonathan

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, Monday, took a critical look at the series of events happening in Rivers State over the face-off between Governor Rotimi Amaechi and The Presidency and warned that the situation has reached an unsustainable level.
Prof. Soyinka, in a statement issued, yesterday, entitled: “Cool it, President Goodluck Jonathan,” urged the President to break the culture of executive impunity in Rivers State.
Said he: “The increasing flash points in the nation have reached an unsustainable level, and responsible governance must accept that it is an urgent duty to diminish, not increase them.
“Even the notoriously short Nigerian memory remains traumatised by recollection of the rape of Anambra that was enabled by the connivance of federal might, and the abandonment of all moral scruples in executive disposition.
soyinka
“The people of Ogun State were humiliated by the antics of a power besotted governor, with their elected legislators locked out of the National Assembly for upwards of a year. That hideous travesty was again made possible by the abusive use of the police.
“Even a child in this nation  knows that the police derive its enabling and operational authority from the dictates of the centre, so there can be no disguising whose will is being executed wherever democratic norms are flouted and the people’s rights ground to mush under dictatorial heels.
“Before the  irretrievable point of escalation is reached, we have a duty to sound a collective alarm, even without the lessons of past violations of constitutional rights and apportionments of elected representatives of the people, and their consequences.
“There is an opportunity in Rivers  State to break this spiraling culture of executive impunity – manifested in both subtle and crude ways – that is fast becoming the norm in a post-military dispensation that fitfully aspires to be  called a democracy.
It will be recalled two weeks ago Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, suspended 27 members of the State House of Assembly and declared their seats in the House vacant.
The House was scheduled to resume sitting yesterday but had to adjourn indefinitely because of fears that there would be break down of law and order while the lawmakers called for the redeployment of the state commissioner of police for his alleged involvement in the crisis.

Wizkid Is Wiser Than D’banj

Y!Naija boss, Chude Jideonwo on Monday gave props to starboy and  ‘Pakurumo’ crooner, Wizkid for reconciling with his label, Empire Mates Entertainment; comparing him to D’banj and stating that he is ‘wiser.’
In the past year, several musicians have created buzz in the music industry with their departure from their record label where they broke through.
D’banj, Wizkid, MayD and Eva  top the list of this estranged relationship.
Wizkid caused tongues to wag after removing EME from his Twitter account. He also did not use the EME label name on his video ‘The Matter’.
Eventually he reconciled with label boss, Banky W.
This singular act seems to have won the respect and admiration of many including Chude Jideonwo, who took to twitter to let his thoughts known.
It’s really surprising that (in re-connecting with EME), Wizkid has shown more wisdom than D’banj :( he tweeted, referring to the Wizkid’s return to EME and yet floating his own record label; StarBoy, which is already signing a number of musicians.

40-yr-old Woman sleeps with 23-yr-old son, got pregnant for him

A 40-year-old Woman, Betty Mbreko and her son has done the unthinkable by fallen in love with one another and now, intend to get married since she is six months pregnant for her son. "Look, I strive alone
to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. Let me enjoy the products of my sweat," the woman boasted before local authorities.

Mbereko (40), from Mwenezi in Masvingo, who was widowed 12 years ago, has been cohabiting with her first child, Farai Mbereko (23). She confirms that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to "marry" her son because she does not want to marry her late husband's young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.
Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier. She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.
Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. "I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off," he said.
"It is better to publicize what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity."
But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: "We cannot allow this to happen in our village, this is a bad omen indeed. In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police." He warned them to break off their marriage or leave the village immediately.
Funny enough, the mother and son chose the advice and have left the village for an unknown destination.

Best Android smartphones (May 2013 edition)

 Introduction

Looking to replace your aging Android companion with something newer and with a little more "oomph"? Here are five excellent Android-powered smartphones from Google, Motorola, and Samsung.
No matter whether you are looking for a consumer handset or something that will be suited to a BYOD role, you're bound to find something of interest here.
The handsets are arranged in no particular order, but my current favorite continues to be the Nexus 4. It's a powerful package that delivers what I believe to be the best, purest Android experience possible.

Summary: Time to take a tour of a handful of the best Android smartphones currently available on the market. Here are some killer handsets from Google, HTC, Motorola, and Samsung.

(Image: HTC)

HTC One

The all-new HTC One is the first of two new kids on the block in terms of Android-powered smartphones.
Under the hood, the HTC One isn't all that different to Samsung's new Galaxy S4 — it features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU (although it runs a little slower), 2GB of RAM, and a 1080p screen — but it is also a very different beast thanks to Sense, the bold new user interface HTC has loaded into the smartphone. It also features an aluminum shell, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4, which has a plastic shell.
  • Jelly Bean (Android 4.2) with HTC's Sense user interface
  • 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600
  • 4.7-inch Super LCD, Full HD, high-pixel-density (468ppi) display
  • 4MP rear camera
  • 2.1MP front camera
  • 32/64GB internal storage.

THE NEXT PC-GAME CHANGER: THE ANDROID POWERED PC

The Android-powered PC

So far, the notebook market is dominated by two players, Windows and OS X, but there's an operating system that could drop into this mix and be highly disruptive — Android.
There's been a lot of discussion bouncing around the tech blogosphere about Intel's plans to get all disruptive and start supporting Android on devices that will cost in the region of $200.
While Microsoft might not be happy about being sidelined by a company that was once one of its biggest supporters, this is exactly what the PC industry needs.
Think this is a huge leap? It isn't. Some of Intel's Atom processors are already compatible with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
PCs aren't selling, and partly, this is down to price. PCs as we know them aren't cheap, and part of the reason for this is how much Microsoft charges for Windows licenses. OEMs tell me that even with the new Windows 8 price cuts, it's hard to compete with free operating systems.
SUMMARY:- The PC industry is stagnating, with consumers shifting to iOS and Android-powered tablets and smartphones. If consumers like Android so much — currently over 1.5 million new devices are activated daily — then why not give them Android-powered PCs?
Android is "free". iOS is "free". OS X is "free". (Technically, none are free, but the consumer price is $0.) Windows is not, and increasingly, price-conscious consumers are asking what Microsoft is giving them in exchange for their dollars.
Given the way that buyers (consumers and enterprise alike) have embraced Android on smartphones and tablets — activations of new devices sit at 1.5 million daily, or 45 million every month — it makes sense to give consumers what they want, and put this operating system onto notebooks, convertibles, and hybrid systems.
And why leave it there? Why not go the whole way and put Android onto desktop systems?
But what about Chrome OS? Doesn't this operating system fill in any gap that's potentially left for Android?
I don't think it does, because Chrome OS is all about cloud services and buying into the Google ecosystem. Android on the other hand, is more open and allows users to take more control over their data and apps. While an all-cloud existence works for some, having apps, local storage, and a flourishing Google Play Store are compelling.
And at $200, PCs suddenly become attractive in a way that they weren't before. A PC in every room starts to become a reality, and this is good for both OEMs who sell the hardware, and good for developers who suddenly have a whole new platform to develop for.

IS APPLE LOOSING ITS TOUCH?

Bill Gates: A lot of iPad users are 'frustrated'

Among the hottest top gadgets for 2013 apple was least in the list. It lost it's position as number one(1) since the advent of the Samsung Galaxy S series. Is Microsoft surface the solution?

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates believes that iPad users are "frustrated." His solution to this frustration is Microsoft's Surface and Surface Pro tablets which come with a keyboard and, more importantly, the Office suite of applications.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates believes that a lot of iPad users are "frustrated" by the tablet and that the Surface and Surface Pro tablets have an advantage over Apple's offerings.
Speaking to CNBC, the Microsoft co-founder and former CEO said that the line between tablets and PCs is blurring.
microsoft surface
"With Windows 8, Microsoft is trying to gain market share in what has been dominated by the iPad-type device. But a lot those users are frustrated. They can't type. They can't create documents," said Gates. "So we're providing them something with the benefits they've seen that has made that a big category but without giving up what they expect in a PC."
"If you have Surface or Surface Pro, you have the portability of the tablet but the richness of terms of the keyboard, Microsoft Office of the PC," he added.
Reading between the lines here, it's clear why iOS and Android users are still waiting for Microsoft's Office suite to come to the respective platforms – Microsoft sees this suite of apps as an ace up its sleeve in the war against Apple and Google.
Bringing Office to these platforms would both strengthen Apple and Google's footing while simultaneously weakening its Surface strategy.
NPD predicts that by 2017, tablets will be outselling notebooks by as much as six to one
, and with this sort of chatter, Microsoft is clearly wants to be a bit tablet player. With a PC industry that's stagnating, Microsoft is obviously keen to redefine its position within the industry so as to keep the dollars flowing in.
