Nigerian Movie Director Sentenced To 15 Years in Prison for Drug Possession in Malaysia

A Nigerian movie director was sentenced to 15-years in prison after a Kuala Lumpur Court in Malaysia found him guilty of possession of 2.4kg of methamphetamines Thursday last week.
The 38 year old movie director, Ifeanyi Johnpaul Aguonu will also receive 10 strokes of the cane for the offence.
He is said to have committed the offence in March 2011.
The preceding High Court Justice Abdul Alim Abdullah expressed concern that many Nigerians had entered Malaysia with illegal drugs without any fear of the law.
“Our country has a strict rule when it comes to drugs; that the law provides a death penalty for drug trafficking.
“If you are convicted of a capital offence here, you could have been hung from the neck until you die,” said the judge before sentencing him.
“But you’ve been saved from the gallows because your counsel sent a representation and the Attorney-General Chambers agreed to give you an alternative charge.”
They say no place like home. Wetin carry am go younder?
