SSS parades Poly student for impersonating Uduaghan
DIRECTOR of the State Security Service (SSS) in Delta State, Mrs.
Florence Ikanone, yesterday paraded a 27-year-old graduate of
Accountancy from Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Mr. Philip
Urieh, for allegedly impersonating Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on the
social networking site, facebook.
She said the suspect, a native of Uzere in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state, was recently arrested by operatives of the state command following painstaking surveillance that was mounted on him as a result of series of reports received on the subject.
According to the Director, the suspect through the facebook platform allegedly defrauded unsuspecting persons to the tune of over N5 million by opening a facebook account with the name and picture of Governor Uduaghan which he uses to deceive his clients, promising them juicy contracts and government appointments.
“The suspect’s modus operandi is that he receives messages and responds to them as if he were the executive governor. He defrauded one Felix from Agbor through the facebook account to the tune N1.2 million on the promise of making him to sponsor beauty pageant.
“In addition, he paid N600,000 for billboards, praising the governor; N480,000 to be given to Chief of Staff; N540,000 for repairs of a Kia salon car belonging to subject; and he was equally instructed to pay N500,000 to be given to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to ease his screening as a commissionership candidate,” said the SSS boss.

Ex-soldier kills spouse over opposition to second wife
A retired soldier has reportedly murdered his wife in cold blood,
over her objection to his taking a second wife. The incident occurred in
Igarra, Akoko–Edo Local Government Area of Edo State. The deceased –
Mrs Onyonishoyi Ukana (Nee Akarutu) – was reportedly macheted in the
middle of the night by her husband, Shakede Ukana, a retired Warrant
Officer (WO 2) in the Nigerian Army. Ukana reportedly committed the
crime at about 1am in the early hours of Thursday, dismembering her body
into pieces. Saturday Newswatch also learnt that Shakede’s 18-year-old
son, whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this
report, was also badly injured, allegedly receiving cuts from his father
when he tried to save his mother.

'Trek'-themed Acer Aspire R7 boldly goes up for auction
Finally, a Windows 8 machine that'll feel at home on other planets. As
part of a "Star Trek Into Darkness" tie-in, Acer launches a
limited-edition "Trek"-themed version of its ambitious Aspire R7.
On returning home from seeing "Star Trek Into Darkness" on Sunday, I
couldn't help but wish my laptop had a more USS Enterprise-y feel.
Thankfully, Acer has anticipated such consumer fancies, announcing
Wednesday that it's partnered with Paramount to offer a limited-edition
Trek-themed Aspire R7.
As is generally the case with such blockbuster-related gadgets, the tie-in here is entirely promotional. The touch-enabled laptop comes engraved with a stainless steel "Star Trek" logo, and includes a logo-festooned sleeve, a film poster signed by the film's cast, and "Star Trek" content such as wallpapers, a soundtrack, and a video game.
The ambitiously designed Aspire R7, however, does feature a flexible design that allows users to move and position the hinged 15.6-inch 1,920x1,080 touch screen as needed, including into a configuration that does sort of resemble the Enterprise.
Acer has already been tied up with "Star Trek Into Darkness," featuring a "explore beyond limits/seek new frontiers" marketing campaign for several of its products and offering a free Star Trek: The Video Game download for buyers of the Aspire R7.
Only 25 units of the "Trek"-themed Aspire R7 have launched, with only one available for purchase via auction on eBay. Bidding will start on June 12 and continue through June 24, with proceeds benefiting two charities: Save the Children and A Mission Continues, which aids military veterans.
The Windows 8 machine, a combination of laptop and all-in-one desktop, has a 1.8GHz Intel Core i5-3337U; a 500GB hard drive plus a 24GB SSD; an HD Webcam; and sells for a suggested retail price of $1,000. It'll be interesting if bidding goes stratospheric on the "Trek"-themed machine -- and if any Klingons try to get in on the action.

Shermain Miles - a woman who has been arrested 396 times and used 83 aliases throughout her life - apologized inside a Cook County courtroom yesterday and accepted a plea deal that will send her to a mental health and substance abuse rehab program.
The 51-year old has been locked up since December for crimes she committed while on parole for an armed robbery conviction and listened quietly while a judge told her:
"All of us are reaching out to you and offering you, maybe for the first time in your life, a hand, Okay? But you've got to reach out and grab all of our hands as well."
Monday's sentencing of professional assistance for Miles stemmed from her latest arrests: one for an alleged assault and two for trespassing and drinking in public.
Miles has agreed to mental health evaluation and follow-up treatment, along with a program for alcohol abuse.
Overall, she has been booked 92 times for theft; 65 times for disorderly conduct; 59 times for prostitution-related crimes; and five times for robbery or attempted robbery.

"Dumb and Dumber To" has been kicked to the curb, making for the latest blow to Jim Carrey's career.Warner Bros.' decision to pass on the "Dumb and Dumber" sequel comes hot on the heels of the box office failure of "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," a film that had a similar budget but grossed only $22 million domestically. Carrey received good reviews for his portrayal of a Criss Angel-like street magician but the film failed to connect with audiences.
Writer-directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly will have to look elsewhere in continuing the misadventures of Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey), as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that WB passed on giving the greenlight to "Dumb and Dumber To," the long in-development sequel to the 1994 hit comedy.

Warner Bros. apparently saw limited potential in the sequel (admittedly, it has been almost 20 years since the first film), even though the budget was pitched to be around $30 million. The writer-director sibling duo are shopping the project out to other studios, which finds Harry and Lloyd hitting the road in search of Harry's illegitimate daughter ... and completely ignores the much-reviled 2003 prequel, "Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd."
Carrey, a box office powerhouse who could command $20 million per film back in the '90s and early '00s, has been having a rough time of it lately. His last starring vehicle was "Mr. Popper's Penguins," which was released two years ago this month and only earned $68 million domestic on abudget of $55 million. Despite the fact that he's always an engaging performer and also does well in edgier projects such as "I Love You Phillip Morris" (2008) and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004), Carrey just doesn't have the mainstream appeal that he used to.
The 51-year-old actor will next be seen in a supporting role as mobster turned vigilante Colonel Stars and Stripes in "Kick-Ass 2," opening August 16. He is also set to star alongside Owen Wilson in a yet-to-be-titled bank heist comedy.
Meanwhile, Carrey's "Dumb and Dumber" pal Jeff Daniels is gearing up for Season Two of "The Newsroom," which premieres on HBO on July 14.
